We understand that some patients would like to have treatment with while asleep. Because of this, we are able to provide our patients with the option of having their treatment with sedation. This option is often chosen by patients who have anxiety concerning their dental treatment. While dental anxiety or dental phobia is the most common reason to choose anesthetics, it is not the only reason. Some patients would simply feel more comfortable being asleep for lengthy appointments. We offer intravenous sedation under the care and observation of Dr. Ben Sohmer and Dr. Sean Dickie. We are very proud to have Cardiac Anesthesiologists from The Ottawa Heart Institute working in our office on a part time basis.
While both Dr. Avi Shelemay and Dr. Vana Andreou are licensed to provide dentistry with anesthesia, patient comfort and safety is their first priority. For this reason, they have chosen to have a separate anesthetist, while the periodontist provides dental treatment. This allows the periodontist to give his or her undivided attention to your dental treatment, while a medical doctor monitors the patient’s vitals.
The sedative drugs are administered intravenously prior to the local anaesthetic injection and throughout the duration of the procedure providing a relaxed and comfortable experience.
